Below is a list of current small groups and Bible studies, grouped by type. Childcare is offered during classes on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday evenings (other times by request). Click on the links below or scroll through the entire list.
Sunday School Life Groups: Sunday - 9:45-10:45am
Each Sunday morning more than 300 adults gather in various classes to grow together in Christian faith and community. These classes are more than just your average "Sunday School," they are LIFE GROUPS-- Christian brothers and sisters gathering to share life; loving, supporting, learning and growing together. Each of our Sunday School Life Groups offer a unique style of study and growth together. In addition, classes extend beyond the classroom through regular social gatherings, spiritual retreats and community service. Boundaries: Wednesdays at 6:30pm (through December 21)
When to Say Yes, How to Say No, to take Control of Your Life. Having clear boundaries is essential to a healthy, balanced lifestyle, and define who we are and who we are not. Based on the bestselling book from Dr. Henry Cloud and John Town, this video series offers biblically-based answers to life’s tough questions, showing us how to set healthy boundaries with our parents, spouses, children, friends, co-workers, and even ourselves. Delta Ministry: Wednesdays at 6:30pm
DeltA is a journey in spiritual formation. It is a way of training ourselves to have our Christian faith go from being something we do to something we are. Each week will include time for reflective worship, insightful teaching, group discussion and prayer. In this process we will be invited to journey together towards a more intentional spiritual life by offering one another mutual support, encouragement, and accountability. Facilitated by Jim Lewis. Would you like to connect to other moms in our church who share your hopes, joys, struggles, frustrations, and craziness? Do you need support and encouragement to help you dig deeper in your own faith journey? Please join us on Monday mornings at 9:30 AM in the parlor as we seek to strengthen our relationship with Christ and each other through prayer and bible study. Childcare is provided. We will head out for a play date and lunchtime after bible study as a way to further build our relationships. Hope to see you there!
Women’s Bible Study: Tuesdays at 10:00am (new study begins in Jan. 2012)
Current Study (through November 6): Living Your Life as a Beautiful Offering - Author Angela Thomas Angela encourages women to rekindle their hearts by returning their lives to God. Jesus knows you are not perfect, but He also knows that you are made perfect in Him. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gives us His compassionate instruction for everyday living and leads us to learn to live in a way that reflects the kingdom of God to the world, to live as a woman with a kingdom heart.

This is a wonderful group of ladies varying in age and in life situations. Our common goal is to connect with our God and with each other as a faith community. If you would love to grow deeper spiritually and to be surrounded by a group of godly women who will uplift you, we invite you to come and join us on Sunday evenings. Current Study: So Long Insecurity.This study speaks truth into the lives of readers, showing them how to deal with their innermost fears, rediscover their God-given dignity, and develop a whole new perspective. I & II Thessalonians Bible Study: Wednesdays at 6:30pm (through November 21)
Join Pastor Randy on a journey through biblical texts to discover what lies beneath the surface, focusing on meaning and context, and then reflecting on the passage in light of our lives today. Facilitated by Pastor Randy Martin
Church rules, the United Methodist Way: Wednesdays at 6:30pm (through November 21)
Discipline; What can never change, how it's protected, how it's interpreted; What is left purposefully vauge, how, and why; What freedoms we insist upon, with what accountability with checks and balances; What can not be compromised; Doctrine and political organization. Discipline is not optional, but lots in it is. Come with your questions, viewpoints, and find out a bit of how we are and why.Facilitated by Pastor Paul Longmire

Teen M.O.P.S. (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers): Mondays from 6:00-7:30pm
Teen MOPS is dedicated to the support of teen mothers of preschoolers, regardless of their background, religious beliefs, or current lifestyle. Our goal is to help teen mothers develop as strong, confident young women and mothers. Young mothers have an opportunity to grow with other young mothers in similar situations in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Group leaders are older women who serve as mentors and friends, based on their own experience as women and mothers. Click here for information.
Moms In Touch: Fridays - 8:15-9:15am
This group began a number of years ago when a group of moms, each having school-age children, wanted to gather together to pray for their children and for our schools. Even though most of the children are now out of school, the moms continue to meet to pray for their children, their teachers, and their schools in our community.
Knitting, Quilting & Crochet: Wednesdays at 6:30pm
Relax with friends who love to Knit, quilt and crochet. Made up of both beginners and those with years of experience, this group enjoys spending time together, sharing patterns and talking about life. Additionally, many in the group have started a Prayer Shawl Ministry making shawls as gifts of comfort and support for various ministries in our congregation.
Knitting Fellowship: Fridays at 10:00am (location varies)
As a continuation of the knitting ministry at Hixson UMC, this groups meets in a diffeent home each Friday morning to knit and share fellowship together. Made up of both beginners and those with years of experience, this group enjoys spending time together, sharing patterns and talking about life. Additionally, group members often donate knitting projects to local missions and to our Prayer Shawl Ministry. Email Jane Horton for more information or this week's location.

Men's Prayer Breakfast: Tuesdays - 6:30-7:30am (Karl's Restaurant)
This group of men meet each and every Tuesday morning at Karl's Restaurant on Hixson Pike. They gather for a time of fellowship, support, and devotion as well as a time to pray for one another and our congregation.
Men's Bible Study Saturdays -7:30-8:30am
A group of men who meet each Saturday morning at Hixson UMC. The group gathers for a time of fellowship and Bible Study together as well as a time to pray and support one another as Christian men.

Golden Agers: First Monday of each month, 12:00-2:00pm
Part of our senior adult ministry, the Golden Agers meet on the first Monday of each month for great food, fellowship and a special program that meets the needs and interests of seniors.
Greeting Card Ministry: Wednesdays - 10:30am-12:00pm
The Greeting Card Ministry gathers each Wednesday morning to make special, hand-made Christian greeting cards which are sold at church and in several local stores to help raise money for such projects as missions, the Worship Center, Community Baskets, and the Child Development Center scholarships. This ministry works in partnership with the Upper Room Sunday School class.
XYZ's (eXtra Years of Zest): Third Thursday of each month 7:00-8:30pm (Friendship House)
Older adults are an active and vital part of Hixson Church. Members of the XYZ's usually meet on the third Thursday of each month for a time of fellowship and a special program. In addition XYZ members donate time, energy, and funds toward projects in and around the church. This group also gathers for recreation and travel.
Prayer Team: Tuesdays - 7:15 - 8:15pm
A very special group at Hixson UMC. The Prayer Team meets each and every Tuesday night to spend time in prayer on behalf of our staff, members and their families, and the world.
Moms In Touch: Fridays - 8:15-9:15am

First Place 4 Health: New Class begins Spring of 2012
Deciding to love God with emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual wholeness can be the beginning of your journey to successful weight loss! You will also learn to overcome fatigue, develop a greater intimacy with God, and enjoy a healthy, vibrant lifestyle. First Place 4 Health is a small group experience with the goal of experiencing genuine community as we learn together to balance these four core areas of life. The class, offered to both men and women, is offered in three 12-week segments.
Good Grief: Tuesdays at 6:30pm (meets off-site. Call for more info)
NA (Narcotics Anonymous): Fridays - 7:00-9:00pm (ongoing group)
Narcotics Anonymous is a non-profit fellowship of men and women for whom drugs have become a major problem. A gathering of recovering addicts who meet regularly to help each other stay clean using the Twelve Step program. There are no dues or fees. The only requirement is the desire to stop using. As the name implies, group meetings are anonymous in nature as members only use their first names. Click here for the national Narcotics Anonymous web-site.
