Clear and effective communication of God’s truth is vital at Hixson UMC. The Technical Arts Team support ministries throughout the church - whether in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings or other worship services throughout the year.  Services supported by these teams include Sunday morning, Weddings, Funerals, as well as special services (i.e. Christmas Eve, Holy Week,), major outreach programs, and programs presented by outside groups using the facility. Mike Summerour is the coordinator for this Team.

If you are interested in finding out more about serving on one of these teams, there is an opportunity to observe the team for a couple of weeks prior to making a commitment to enter the training phase. Training generally takes place “on the job” working alongside a veteran member of the team. For more information about any of the technical teams contact Jeanne Hoskyn-Sauer at jeannesauer@hixsonumc.org

SOUND TEAM*: Our Sound Team consists of technicians who support the audio needs for speakers, musicians, actors, video/DVD presentations, etc. The main sanctuary features a 40-channel mixing board which supports both direct and wireless technology for both house and stage monitor applications. Time commitment is once a month on Sunday mornings with training available.

VIDEO TEAM*: The Video Team supports the ministry by capturing services and programs through digital video recording.. Helpful skills for volunteers involve basic knowledge and use of a video camera. Time commitment is once a month on Sunday mornings with training available.

POWERPOINT/MEDIASHOUT TEAM*: Supported by one large rear-projection screen in the Sanctuary our Video Projection Team uses the computer software programs PowerPoint and MediaShout to provide song lyrics and video graphics for our services. Team members may also put together the presentations for the worship services if they desire.

*Team member commitment varies. They arrive approximately  1/2 hour before a service to participate in sound checks and prayer time before a service. Team members should have intermediate level computer skills (including the ability to navigate between computer directories), be able to work well with others, be flexible and be able to work under time constraints. Potential team members have the opportunity to shadow and work alongside current team operators before making any commitments. Training is also available.

LIFETRACKS: Service messages are recorded by our Lifetracks ministry which supplies CD recordings for people who cannot attend the Sunday morning worship services. Tom Wolfe heads up this very important ministry. Training is available. Basic computer skills and the ability to handle electronic equipment (without being afraid of it!) are helpful.
