Sunday School Life Groups:  Sunday - 9:45-10:45am

 

Each Sunday morning more than 300 adults gather in various classes to grow together in Christian faith and community. These classes are more than just your average "Sunday School," they are LIFE GROUPS-- Christian brothers and sisters gathering to share life; loving, supporting, learning and growing together. Each of our Sunday School Life Groups offer a unique style of study and growth together. In addition, classes extend beyond the classroom through regular social gatherings, spiritual retreats and community service.  Sunday's from 9:45-10:45am Click here for information and for individual class descriptions.


Small Group Bible Studies


Disciple I: Sundays at 5:00pm (begins September 12)

Disciple is a dynamic Bible study for people who are hungry for the word of God. This is a 34-week study of the Old and New Testaments during which participants will read and study all or part of almost every book in the Bible. This group is appropriate for both beginners and longtime students of the Bible.


40 Days of Purpose: 2/4 Tuesdays at 7:00pm (ongoing group)

This group formed as part of our church's 40 Days of Purpose focus several years ago. After completing the study, this group continued to meet together for fellowship, spiritual support and Bible Study.


Men's Bible Study: Saturdays at 7:00am (ongoing group)

A group of men who meet each Saturday morning at Hixson UMC. The group gathers for a time of fellowship and Bible Study together as well as a time to pray and support one another as Christian men.


Messy Spirituality: Sundays at 9:45am (begins September 12)

What if genuine faith begins with admitting we will never have our act completely together? Here are truths that can cut you loose from the tyranny of ought-to's and open your eyes to the deep spirituality of being loved, shortcomings and all, by the God who meets you and transforms you in the midst of your messy and unpredictable life.

The Sacred Echo: Wednesdays at 6:30pm (begins September 1)
When God really wants to get your attention, he doesn't just say something once. He echoes. He speaks through a Sunday sermon, a chance conversation, even a random email. The repetitive nature of a sacred echo reminds us to pay close attention -- something important may be going on here.

Join Kay Arthur, Priscilla Shirer and Beth Moore offer a unique blend of inspiration and teaching through video. While these three women each speak on the distinctive topic the Holy Spirit has lead them to teach, the messages result in a marvelous blend. Pastors Bible Study Groups


The Book of Galatians: Wednesdays at 6:30pm (begins September 1)

Join Pastor Randy on a journey through biblical texts to discover what lies beneath the surface, focusing on meaning and context, and then reflecting on the passage in light of our lives today. This study, covering the entire book of Galatians, will help you see the bondage of human sinful nature and explain the freedom provided by Christ Jesus%u2014a freedom that will satisfy, when nothing else does.

Man & Woman, Discipleship Together: Wednesdays at 6:30pm (begins September 1)
Join Pastor Paul, exploring the relationship of men and women together as disciples of Jesus Christ. We will find encouragement for our relationships today as we discover we are made for each other in dynamic discipleship, empowering relationships for God's glory in spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Women's Studies/Groups

Teen M.O.P.S. (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers): 6:00-7:30pm
Teen MOPS is dedicated to the support of teen mothers of preschoolers, regardless of their background, religious beliefs, or current lifestyle. Our goal is to help teen mothers develop as strong, confident young women and mothers. Young mothers have an opportunity to grow with other young mothers in similar situations in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Group leaders are older women who serve as mentors and friends, based on their own experience as women and mothers. Click here for information.

 

Moms In Touch: Fridays - 8:15-9:15am
This group began a number of years ago when a group of moms, each having school-age children, wanted to gather together to pray for their children and for our schools. Even though most of the children are now out of school, the moms continue to meet to pray for their children, their teachers, and their schools in our community.

Men's Studies/Groups

Men's Prayer Breakfast: Tuesdays - 6:30-7:30am (Karl's Restaurant)
This group of men meet each and every Tuesday morning at Karl's Restaurant on Hixson Pike. They gather for a time of fellowship, support, and devotion as well as a time to pray for one another and our congregation.

 

Men's Bible Study Saturdays -7:30-8:30am
A group of men who meet each Saturday morning at Hixson UMC. The group gathers for a time of fellowship and Bible Study together as well as a time to pray and support one another as Christian men.

 

Senior Adult Groups

Golden Agers: First Monday of each month, 12:00-2:00pm
Part of our senior adult ministry, the Golden Agers meet on the first Monday of each month for great food, fellowship and a special program that meets the needs and interests of seniors.

Greeting Card Ministry: Wednesdays - 10:30am-12:00pm
The Greeting Card Ministry gathers each Wednesday morning to make special, hand-made Christian greeting cards which are sold at church and in several local stores to help raise money for such projects as missions, the Worship Center, Community Baskets, and the Child Development Center scholarships. This ministry works in partnership with the Upper Room Sunday School class.

XYZ's (eXtra Years of Zest): Third Thursday of each month 7:00-8:30pm (Friendship House)
Older adults are an active and vital part of Hixson Church. Members of the XYZ's usually meet on the third Thursday of each month for a time of fellowship and a special program. In addition XYZ members donate time, energy, and funds toward projects in and around the church. This group also gathers for recreation and travel.


Prayer Ministry Groups

Prayer Team: Tuesdays - 7:15 - 8:15pm
A very special group at Hixson UMC. The Prayer Team meets each and every Tuesday night to spend time in prayer on behalf of our staff, members and their families, and the world.

Moms In Touch: Fridays - 8:15-9:15am

Focus on Health

First Place 4 Health: Thursdays - 9:30-10:45am and 6:30-7:45pm

Deciding to love God with emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual wholeness can be the beginning of your journey to successful weight loss! You will also learn to overcome fatigue, develop a greater intimacy with God, and enjoy a healthy, vibrant lifestyle. First Place 4 Health is a small group experience with the goal of experiencing genuine community as we learn together to balance these four core areas of life. Good Grief: Wednesdays at 6:30pm (begins September 1)

Each of us experience loss. Whether mourning the death of a loved one, the end of a marriage, the loss of a job, or other difficult life changes, we all must work through the grief that is a natural reaction to loss and change. This class offers valuable insights on the various responses experienced during grief while providing an atmosphere of healing through mutual support and understanding. Facilitated by Dr. John Oldham.

 

Hixson Heart-Walkers: Dates and times to be determined

Hixson UMC is partnering with the American Heart Association's "Start! Walking" Program. Be part of a growing group of health-minded friends who will seek to set goals, to encourage each other, celebrate progress, and learn more about personal health and fitness. 

 

NA (Narcotics Anonymous): Fridays - 7:00-9:00pm
Narcotics Anonymous is a non-profit fellowship of men and women for whom drugs have become a major problem. A gathering of recovering addicts who meet regularly to help each other stay clean using the Twelve Step program. There are no dues or fees. The only requirement is the desire to stop using. As the name implies, group meetings are anonymous in nature as members only use their first names. Click here for the national Narcotics Anonymous web-site.

 

Yoga: Wednesdays at 6:30pm begins September 1)
Yoga provides a series of poses that strengthen the mind and body and gives new found flexibility to the muscles. It can also supply techniques that quiet the mind from daily stress, worry, and chaos. This class is open to beginners and those experienced in yoga. Instructor: Jillian Ricks (There is a $35 fee for this course).

 

Special Interests Groups

Golden Agers: 1st Monday at 12:00pm (ongoing group)

Part of our senior adult ministry, the Golden Agers meet on the first Monday of each month for great food, fellowship and a special program that meets the needs and interests of seniors.

Knitting, Quilting & Crochet: Wednesdays at 6:30pm (begins September 1) 
Relax with friends who love to Knit, quilt and crochet. Made up of both beginners and those with years of experience, this group enjoys spending time together, sharing patterns and talking about life. Additionally, many in the group have started a Prayer Shawl Ministry making shawls as gifts of comfort and support for various ministries in our congregation.


Ladies Greeting Card Ministry: Wednesdays at 10:30am (ongoing group)

This ministry of Hixson UMC meets weekly to recycle old greeting cards into new ones that share Christian love, prayer and hope with others.

Teen MOPS: Mondays at 6:00pm (ongoing group))
Teen moms have an opportunity to grow with other young moms in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Group leaders are older women who serve as mentors and friends.

XYZ's: 3rd Thursday at 7:00pm (ongoing group)

Hixson UMC "Common Ground" Classes

Common Ground: (Sun. at 5pm and Wed. at 6:30. Begins Sep 1 & 12)
Guided by our congregational mission statement this 6-week class is designed to help us deepen our relationship with one another and with God by reconnecting us to the roots of our Christian Faith and our United Methodist Heritage. The six sessions include: Our Christian Heritage, Our United Methodist Heritage, The Story and Mission of Hixson UMC, Living the Transformed Life, Discipleship and Mission, Class Mission project and Celebration Dinner. This class will be continually offered over the next two years. The Pastors and staff are encouraging every person at Hixson UMC to attend one 6-week session in order than we may grow in our relationships with God and each other and unite as a congregation around our mission of %u201Cpartnering with God to transform the world by offering help, hope and healing through Jesus.
